Look up when you can, connect how you can

Feel Good About How Your Child Grows Up With Screens

“He doesn’t look at me anymore.” Your toddler’s eyes are locked on the tablet, and you feel an ache of worry and guilt. Sound familiar? You’re not alone. So many of us secretly wonder if we’re failing as parents for letting screen-time creep in. You know the experts say “no more than an hour a day”, yet after a long day at work you find yourself handing over the iPad just to catch your breath – and then feeling terrible about it. You’re caught between “I should know better” and “I don’t know what’s enough anymore.” It’s heartbreaking, and it’s exactly why Look Up Family exists.

We aim to empower families to foster healthy relationships with digital devices and cherish meaningful connections.

Look Up Family - We walk along with you to thrive in the digital age

Screens are convenient. But it is also confusing.

You know they’re not all bad, but how much is too much? What’s safe? What actually helps your child grow? Most nights, you’re just trying to make it to bedtime without a meltdown, theirs or yours.

Look Up Family is a community-powered, science-aware space that helps turn your screen-time guilt into growth and connection. We’re not here to judge or preach (We’re parents too, and we get it). You want your child to thrive, but not at the cost of connection. And that’s exactly what we’re here for.

Look Up Family is your support system, built for Singapore parents balancing work, toddlers, and tech.

We believe in our 3Cs framework to help parents:

  • Credible: Learn smart screen safety guides from trust and safety experts, who are parents too! (no jargon, no fear)

  • Confident Learn "Ready-to-play" activities for emotional development and family connections

  • Community: Real stories from parents who’ve been where you are. Join a safe, no judgement WhatsApp community where we share, not shame.

It’s more than tips. It’s confidence, connection, and the calm to enjoy parenting again.

We spoke with > 1000 Singaporeans parents

Look Up Family isn’t just another parenting blog or app – it’s a movement grounded in real research and real lives. We surveyed and spoke with more than 1000 local parents to design this community, and the message was loud and clear: parents crave reassurance, practical help, and a place to belong. Our approach directly addresses those needs. We champion a balanced, no-fear-mongering ethos – “not anti-screen, but pro-connection” – as a game-changer for modern parenting. Because technology is here to stay.

We’ve combined evidence-based guidance with the warmth of peer support to tackle the real challenges families face in managing digital life. We believe that when you have the right knowledge and friends by your side, things get easier. Your child will benefit from more giggles over playtime, fewer power struggles over screens, and new skills blooming when you least expect it.

Be invited

We’re opening up by invitation this 6th September to keep our community close-knit, and personal. We are the first generation to raise digital natives — kids who’d rather text than talk. And, let’s be honest, it’s hard.

We’d love to have you be our pioneer wave of parents who are transforming their screen-time struggles into brighter family moments. It’s not a class, not a course – just real parents coming together to help each other and their kids thrive.

Frequently asked questions

Is Look Up Family against screen time?

Not at all! We’re not anti-screen at all. In fact, we help you embrace smart screen time. That means figuring out how to use digital devices in a healthy, brain-building way, rather than treating screens as the enemy. We’ll never scold you for resorting to YouTube or cartoons – we’ve been there. Instead, we offer ideas to make screen use safer and more enriching, and tips to balance it with meaningful offline activities.

I’m a busy parent. Will I actually have time for this community?

Absolutely. Look Up Family is built for busy schedules. Our tips are bite-sized and practical – think 2-minute read or a quick suggestion you can try at home that evening. Interaction in the community is flexible: you choose how you want to show up you can lurk and learn, or chime in when you have a moment. There’s no “homework” or rigid program. Whether you have 5 minutes during your commute or an hour on the weekend, you’ll find something useful without feeling overwhelmed. This is support that fits into your life, not another item on your to-do list.

How is Look Up Family different from a parenting class or the advice I get online?

First, we’re peer-driven – you’ll be learning alongside other parents in Singapore who share their real experiences, not just passively listening to an “expert” lecture. Second, everything is validated by child development research, so you get the best of both worlds: the wisdom of the crowd and trustworthy guidance. Unlike random tips on the internet, our content is curated for our local context (what works in an HDB flat or a condo here, not a big American house with a yard). And unlike a formal class, we’re informal and ongoing – more like having a group of knowledgeable parent friends on call, rather than a one-off workshop.

Who’s behind Look Up Family?

We're parents, just like you.

When our daughter was born, we faced the same bedtime YouTube negotiations, the same guilt about screen time, and the same exhaustion that makes tablets feel like survival tools.

The difference? We couldn't unsee what we knew.

Hui Ying had spent years in online safety across multiple markets, witnessing firsthand what unmanaged screens expose our children to. Adrian, through his mental health research with youth, saw the long-term impacts of our digital choices today.

But here's what we realized: Fear doesn't help tired parents. Judgment doesn't either.

What helps? Real talk. Practical tools. A friend who gets it.

So we built Look Up Family – mixing our professional expertise with our parenting reality. Yes, we've consulted child psychologists and development specialists. But more importantly, we've been in your shoes at 7pm on a Tuesday, desperately needing 20 minutes to cook dinner. Helpers and Grandparents don't really help much in that issue either.

We believe every family's journey is unique. There's no perfect formula, just progress.

Think of us as your parent-friends who did the homework on digital safety and child development, and we are here to share notes, swap stories, and remind you that you're doing better than you think.

No judgment. Just support.

Why is the launch party invite-only, and how do I join your community?

We’re keeping Look Up Family invite-based (at least for now) to grow our community slowly and maintain trust. A smaller group means we really get to know each other and everyone feels safe sharing their honest struggles and wins. It’s how we ensure a warm, personal vibe rather than a giant, noisy forum. To join, simply click the invite request and let us know you’re interested. If you snag a spot for our launch party, you’ll receive an invite link and onboarding details. And don’t worry – if you miss this round, we’ll have more invite waves coming. Our goal is to welcome every parent who needs this space, while keeping the supportive spirit strong. So hop on in, and let’s navigate this digital parenting journey together!
